Frequently Asked Questions
How much will qCodes cost?
Standard qCodes will be available free of charge. There will be no cost to you, just as there is no cost for you to use a postal/ZIP code.
When will qCodes be available?
We are in the process of meeting with various major companies to start getting qCodes established. We hope this goes rapidly.
Will my qCode change if I move?
Yes, just like your mailing address changes when you move, your qCode will change. qCodes are specific to an address, thus when you move to a new address, you will have a new qCode.
However, if you have purchased a Personal qCode (like JOHN SMITH) you will not lose that qCode. You will have to give us your new address and we will change the address linked to that qCode.
How do I find out what my qCode is?
Once qCodes have been established, our website will enable you to look up the qCode of any address. Just come to our website, enter the address and you will get the qCode assigned to that address. Just like looking up a postal/ZIP code.
Eventually businesses will publish their qCode just like they publish their phone number.
Which sat nav/smartphone apps will work with qCodes?
Once qCodes have been established we hope that all major manufacturers of sat nav devices and smartphone apps will adopt the system. The changes required are actually quite easy to do so we hope that this process will be rapid.
This website will list all devices and apps that are compatible with qCodes.
Will qCodes have its own smartphone app?
Yes, we will be developing our own smartphone app. With this app you just enter the qCode of the desired location. The app looks up the qCode, returns the physical address associated with that qcode, and then passes the latitude/longitude of that location to whichever mapping app (Google, HERE, Bing, Apple, etc.) you have installed on your phone.
Will I have to buy a new sat nav/app to use qCodes?
The changes required for a sat nav device to use qCodes are only software modifications.
Thus, you should be able to continue to use your current sat nav device. qCodes will increase the amount of storage you will need on your sat nav but other than that all changes can be done in software/firmware.
For smartphone apps the same is true. All changes are done in software so the manufacturer can easily give you an upgrade.
In all cases it will be the decision of the sat nav manufacturer (or smartphone app manufacturer) whether or not they will charge you for the upgrade. We have no control over this.
Will qCodes be available for all countries?
Yes. It is planned that qCodes will be available for all countries. The level of detail and accuracy of the address locations will be limited by the accuracy of the data available.
For countries where street level sat nav directions are available qCodes will be able to provide the same level of accuracy.
Is the qCode geotagging system patented?
A patent application has been filed with the US, European and WPO patent offices.
